Why the pyramid existed

It made sense, once.

When analysis meant armies of people doing manual research, it worked. Hire many juniors, bill them at brand rates, have a few partners oversee. The ratio of junior to senior was the engine of the profit. For decades it printed money. Clients tolerated it because there was no alternative.

Why it broke

AI did to research what the spreadsheet did to the ledger.

The work that justified the pyramid is now done faster and better by a senior operator with the right engine. Diligence, modelling, document analysis, first drafts. The pyramid didn't get cheaper. It just stopped being necessary.
